HISTORIC TARBORO WALKING TRAIL & TOUR
The National
Recreational Trail begins at the Blount-Bridgers House and leads visitors
through North Carolina's largest historic district. Take a leisurely
stroll or drive past beautiful historic homes and churches.
The two-hour tours begin at the Blount Bridgers house and cover about two miles of walking through part of the historic district. The tour includes the interior of Blount-Bridgers house (ca. 1808), the Everette House/Pender Museum (ca. 1800), the Cotton Press (ca. 1840) on the Town Common, and Calvary Church (1867) and the churchyard.
The tour guide tells about the architecture of the structures, some family history of who lived in some of the homes along with a history of how Tarboro grew from a small river port to a major trading center in the 19th century.
Join the family on Saturday morning, August 6 at 9:30am. Tour begins at the Blount-Bridgers House (located at 130 Bridgers Street, Tarboro).

IT'S A VINES BARNES SILENT AUCTION - JOIN THE PARTY!
With this year’s theme, “WE ARE FAMILY”, we believe and value the
movement of community, connection with family, and support of local businesses.
Our commitment is to raise funds to
provide educational scholarships for our high school seniors. We rely on generous donations from donors
like you to make these scholarships a reality for students in the pursuit of
higher education.
In 2014, more than 250 family members attended the reunion, which was the
largest reunion to date. Family members
from as far away as Cancun, Mexico have gathered together in previous reunions.
This year, the reunion commences at Edgecombe Community College. The highlight
of Saturday night’s festivities includes the silent auction, where we will
feature unique items and services from the area’s best retailers, restaurants,
entertainment venues and professionals.
Can you help us
out with a donation of a product or service from your business because it will
greatly help a high school student further their education? Contributions of all
sizes and values are welcome. Your donation can be something as simple as a
gift certificate to your business or an invitation to share lunch with you. To acknowledge your contribution, you will
receive recognition on our website, social media outlets, donor recognition
throughout the reunion event, as well as signage in the auction area.

REUNION DETAILS HAVE BEEN MAILED....NOW ON TO THE GOOD STUFF!
By now, everyone should have either received the Vines-Barnes 2016 reunion details by mail or email. If for some reason you have not, no worries. We have provided the details including registration form, agenda and information sheet here!
Now on to the good stuff...we traveled down to GK Cafe and Catering for a little tasting testing to help us narrow down the catering vendor for the reunion. You can tell by the photos below that our tummies were beyond happy with GK's. But there are a couple of other great vendors to choose from as well. You'll just have to be there on August 5-6 to see who the winner was!

ABOUT OUR OTHER REUNION VENUE: THOMAS S. FLEMING BUILDING
Dear Family,
We are so very excited as the months draw near to our next Vines-Barnes Family Reunion to be held on August 5-6, 2016.
On Saturday, the family will be getting together at the Thomas S. Fleming Building.
A facility in the making since a fund-raising campaign began in August 2000, the Thomas S. Fleming Building opened in April 2004.
For smaller gatherings, such as exhibits, wedding receptions, and other social and business events, a large exhibit hall named the Mobley Atrium is available to residents of Edgecombe and surrounding counties. The Mobley Atrium honors Jack Mobley, who left a substantial gift to the Fleming Building in his estate.
Construction on the 70,000-square-foot, two-story facility began in December 2002. By late 2003, the building was up and finishing details were under way. Edgecombe Community College faculty and staff moved into their offices during April and May 2004, in time for the summer session that began in late May.
- 1 Continuing Education computer/lab room
- 1 Distance Learning classroom
- 2 small conference rooms
- 3 large conference/classrooms
- 5 computer classrooms/labs
- 10 general classrooms
Of the total $11 million price tag, $7.5 million has been provided by the state. The balance is being funded through private donations. Hundreds of local residents have purchased and are continuing to purchase engraved bricks. The first installment of bricks has been laid permanently at the entrance to the Fleming Building.
"This is what the county deserves," Hartwell Fuller, who was president of ECC at the time, remarked shortly after the building opened. "It was built for the people, and it will serve them very well for many years to come."

Remember "We are Family" and we'll see you all August 5-6, 2016. If you have any questions, please email us at vinesbarnes2016@gmail.com.

Just looking into some family history and had know idea that the 2014 Vines-Barnes Family Reunion was featured in the Rocky Mount Telegram. Check us out!!
In a weekend filled with love, joy, smiles, fun and fellowship, the Vines-Barnes family descended on the town of Pinetops to attend the 16th biannual Vines-Barnes Family Reunion. Family members from as far away as Cancun, Mexico, and as close as Pinetops gathered Aug. 1-3 at Carver Elementary School for the three-day event. First-time family participants traveled from Richmond, Va., and the Atlanta area.
This was the largest reunion to date, as more than 250 family members participated. The festivities included a fish fry on Friday, a buffet style dinner Saturday and an appreciation luncheon Sunday.
During the fish fry, family members played bingo, participated in a 50/50 raffle and socialized. The meal included fish, hot dogs, french fries, baked beans, coleslaw and desserts. Abrams BBQ of Tarboro catered the meal.
